COMMUNICATE LIKE A STARTUP
COMMUNICATE LIKE A STARTUP

I love working with startups and the more I do, the more I realize there is a lot that larger Companies can learn from them. Compared to a lot of larger Corporations there is a simplicity in management and communication that has been lost in the hierarchy and delegating tasks to specialist departments.

The CEO of one of my clients sends a very short note on the company-wide Teams page every Sunday evening so that it is there for every person on Monday morning. When I say very short, I really mean only a few lines. It highlights

  • the success of the last week
  • a learning point (if there was any)
  • major management milestone (if there was any)
  • key points of focus or deliverable for the next week.

I have often heard feedback from teams and employees that their leaders don’t communicate often enough. The same goes for department heads requiring more contact with their leaders.

So here is my challenge to all leaders:

What if you try implementing this simple way of communication within your team? It will take 2-3 minutes to write but it will definitely lead to a more engaged and focussed team.
